Personal experience

Hi, I’m Simay. I’m originally from Türkiye and currently live in Milan, where I’m pursuing an MSc in Data Science and Business Analytics at Bocconi University.

I studied Industrial Engineering at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul from 2019 to 2024. During and after university, I completed internships and worked in a full-time role between 2022 and 2026, gaining experience across banking, retail, startups and technology. I was also involved in student societies and extracurricular projects throughout university.

In 2025, I moved to Milan to begin my master’s at Bocconi. Moving abroad brought a completely new set of challenges—from applications, scholarships and paperwork to housing, adapting to a new city and keeping up academically.

If you’re finding the process stressful, you’re definitely not alone. I still find parts of studying abroad difficult too. Application stress may eventually turn into coursework and exam stress, so perhaps it never fully disappears—but it does become easier when you have clear information and people to ask for help :)

That is why I created Mila. I wanted to bring together the guidance, tools and official starting points I found useful, so other students would not have to search through dozens of different websites for every step.

Mila is not a finished or official source. It is an independent student platform that will continue to grow and be updated as I learn more, receive feedback and discover new resources. I’m here to share what I know, make the process feel less confusing and help wherever I can.
